Western wedding customs add a joyful meld of customs and humorous challenges to a couple’s quest into marriage, from breaking dishes to sawing through logs. Family and friends gather outside the bride’s home to crack numerous enamel dishes to bring good fortune to the couple’s matrimony. One such pre-wedding ceremony is known as Polterabend. The pair is therefore required to remove all the fragments themselves, reiterating their commitment to working jointly through any challenges they may encounter in the future.

A post-wedding festival known as the la rotie in Italy is incredibly intimate and profane, but it is also profoundly connected to the government’s remote tradition. Following the bride, a group of friends abduct the bride and groom, who then transports them to a bar or restaurant where they serve the newlyweds with a refreshment of champagne and chocolate served in a room container. The couple does finally share a bowl of vegetable sauce, which represents married life’s daily intimateity.

Although it may seem common to most people to pour wheat or petals on newlyweds, in Poland, wheat and barley are also sprinkled on the pair to wish them good health and fecundity. Before the marriage ceremony, the few is even sprinkled with salt and wheat, which are considered the essentials of life, consequently that they will always have what they need to endure. Additionally, it is customary for the couple to step on vodka bottles that are displayed at the venue’s “passing gates” to wish them good fortune and abundance.
